The Department of Continuing Education is an accredited provider unit for continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Mary Jo serves as the Lead Nurse planner for this provider unit to assure educational activities awarding continuing education adheres to the ANCC standards and guidelines. She provides orientation and training to Nurse Educators within the Hospital Sisters Healthcare System (HSHS) that meet the qualification to serve as Nurse Planners in order to provide continuing education credit for educational activities within their respective ministries. Mary Jo has served in a variety of roles with in HSHS as a staff nurse in the NICU, Cardiopulmonary Unit and later Med/Surge units.  She served as Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist for IMC and General Surgical Units for 10 years and Nurse Manager for the Med Acute unit for five years. Mary Jo received her Master’s in Nursing from Southern Illinois University and is certified in Nursing Professional Development.

Ann Randol MS, RN

Ann has worked as part the HSHS family for almost 30 years.  Ann is a 1984 RN grad from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing.  Her BSN was awarded in Community Health Nursing; with the MS in Nursing Education.   Ann started her nursing career at St. John’s Hospital; working first in Medical Intermediate Care then the O.R.  Upon completing her Masters, she obtained a faculty role at St. John’s School of Nursing as an Instructor in Foundations of Nursing/ Medical- Surgical Nursing/ Perioperative Services/ and Pediatrics.  Ann completed the Parish Nurse Basic preparation course in 2006 and functioned as “the nurse” on over 13 summer mission trips to the Appalachia with the high school and college youth of her church while completing “re-building” projects in flood ravaged Appalachia.  Ann’s responsibilities as the Facilitator of Continuing Education will be to work closely with the program Director in assisting Nurse Planners in providing valuable educational activities/ CE  programs while adhering to ANCC guidelines. She will also have oversite of the Faith Community Nursing annual course and ongoing Faith Community CE programs.
